MERCURY
Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, 58 million kilometres away and it only takes mercury 87 days to orbit around the sun and 58 days to rotate. It is known for being the fast planet because of the short distances to orbit and that’s why the Romans named it after swift-footed massager god mercury. Mercury consist 0 moons and the maximum temperature ever recorded on mercury is 456°C, the minimum is -184°C. The temperature of mercury depends on what side on this planet is facing the sun. The earth is just about 3 times bigger than mercury with mercury’s diameter 4,878km. For what we know so far mercury’s surface ranges from ridges, terrains ranging from really heavily cratered to practically crater free.
VENUS
Venus is the 2nd planetin line with the sun 107 million kilometres away. It takes Venus 224 days to orbit around the sun and 243 days rotate. It was named after the roman goddess and beauty and love. The same as mercury, Venus also consist of 0 moons. The average temperature on Venus is 449°C. Venus is sometime know and the earth’s twin because it is nearly the same size of the earth but just a bit smaller the diameter of Venus is 12100km which is 95% of the earth’s diameter. A lot of Venus surface appears to be young from radar imaging with the average somewhere between 300 – 500 million years old. The surface is smooth in many places. There has been found that Venus has some of the same geological features found on earth such as canyons, volcanoes, lava flows, rift valleys, mountains, creators and plains.
EARTH
Earth is the 3rd planet in line with the sun 150 million kilometres away. Its takes 365 days to orbit around the sun and 23 hours 56 mins to rotate. In Greek mythology, Earth was the mothers of all the mountains valleys, stream and all other land formation. Earth consists of one moon. Earth's average temperature is 7.2°C. The diameter on earth is 12756.2 Km 5% bigger then Venus. The majority of the earth surface is made up of water about 70% and the remaining 30% is made up of land such as the 7 contents. Underneath the ocean the earth’s surface layer is made up of rocks. The outer layer formed a hard rocky crust as lava at the surface.
MARS
Mars is the 4th planet in line with the sun 229 million kilometres away. Its takes 686 days to orbit around the sun and 24 hours and 37 minutes to rotate. Mars was the Roman god of war and agriculture. Mars consist of 2 moon. The maximum temperature recorded Is 36°C and the minimum is -123°C . The diameter of Mars is 6794km which is 53% of earth diameter. The mass of Mars is 10% of earth mass. The surface of Mars id very dry and like a barren wasteland. Its is marked by old volcanoes and the impact of craters.
JUPITER
Jupiter 5th planet in line with the sun 777 million kilometres away from the sun. It takes 4332 days to orbit around the sun and 9 hours and 55 minutes to rotate. In Greek mythology Jupiter is known as Zeus, Over threw his father Saturn to become king of gods. He then split with his brother Neptune and Pluto. Jupiter consists of 67 moons found so far, Jupiter has the most moons in our solar system. The average temperature recorded is -153°C . Jupiter’s diameter is 142984 km. Its mass is 317 times more than the earth and its volume is 1318 times bigger than the earth’s volume. Jupiter’s surface is covered with a thick layer of ice. It’s so cold and it take so long to get there scientist have really studied the surface or Jupiter.
SATURN
Saturn is the 6th planet in line with the sun 1429 million kilometres away from the sun. It takes 10759 days to orbit around the sun and 10 hours and 13 minutes to rotate. In Greek mythology Saturn is the Roman god of agriculture. Saturn is the son of Uranus and the farther of Jupiter. Saturn overthrew his father to become king of the gods but he was then overthrown by his own son Jupiter. Saturn consists of 62 moons. The average temperature on Saturn is -184°C. The diameter if Saturn is 120536 kilometres. Saturn is 83 times bigger than earth, you could fit earth 833 inside of Saturn. Saturn’s surface is mostly made up of gas and liquid. Its small core is made up rock and ice. Saturn’s rings are very bright and made up of composed rock and ice particles.
URANUS
Uranus is the 7th planet in line with the the sun 1871 million kilometres away from the sun. It takes 30684 days to orbit the sun and 17.2 hours to rotate. In Greek mythology, Uranus is the lord of the skies. He was the husband of earth and he was the king of the gods until he was overthrown by his own son Saturn. Uranus has 27 know moons so far. The average temperature on Uranus is -184°C. Uranus diameter is 51118 kilometres 4 times bigger than earth and in mass it is 14 times bigger than earth. Uranus surface is made up of ice and gas, Uranus rings are very bright made up of water and ice.
NEPTUNE
Neptune is the 8th planet in line with the sun, 4496 million kilometres away. It takes 60196 days to orbit the sun and 16 hours and 17 minutes to rotate. In Greek mythology, at first Neptune was the god of water but later on it was extended to the sea when h became associated with god Poseidon. Neptune consists of 13 moons and the average temperature on Neptune is -184°C. The diameter of Neptune is 49528 kilometres and in size Neptune is 57 times bigger than earth. Neptune surface is not solid because it is a giant gas planet. Its core is rocky and the tempura would increase the deeper you go down to the core.
